How to Prepare for Virtual Interview

During this pandemic situation, we not only working remotely but also recruiters hiring their
workforce through Virtual or Video call rounds. Including me, for many, it will be a different experience that we never face before. So, here are  5 basics that will help us to prepare before attempting a video call interview.

1. Familiarize Yourself with Technology- It is better to schedule a prior mock call with your friends or family to test out a new platform and its feature. There are multiple platforms that interviewers us such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc. Prior check of technology prevents from last moment error and you may find an alternative way to contact your recruiter earlier that might hamper your interview call.

2. Dress to Impress-  The virtual interview takes place from anywhere. You may be attending it from home, relative place, or any other place. You don't need a suit every time but wear something that is appropriate/formal that shows you made an effort for an interview and you are serious about the role.
Because your first impression is your last impression.

3. Set a virtual background- We prefer to give an interview sitting against a blank wall, isn't it? Think about how can you add more professionalism in your virtual interview call. You all have heard about the virtual background. Set it up with proper background image such as office setup, conference room setup to best fit yourself into that interview mode.

4. Research the company's crisis responses-Beyond from a regular search just have a deep look at company status during this  COVID pandemic. What they have changed during crisis days, what the required from work from the home interviewee, and have a look at recent interviews to stay updated.

5. Don't get distracted looking at your own face-  Lack or rehearse turn you to looking at the screen instead of looking at the camera while giving a video interview and you easily get distracted by your screen. Be confident, look into the camera, maintain your voice tone & body language, keep a smile on your face, relax your shoulders and you will nail the interview for sure.

ProTips:
a). Use the "Hide-self" option on a video call to avoid distracted with your screen.
b). Rehearse with your senior to get feedback on your voice tone, body language, etc.

Stay Safe!
