So, here I am going to share with you three tips that personally helped me a lot.
- Sharpen Your Skills- Skills are the very first point that will make you a more marketable candidate for the field, you're trying to break into. Deeply go through with the job description and see if there is 100 % match of skill set that is requested by the employer than highlight your those skills to get into the spotlight and if you are lacking from highly valued skills then there is no sense for applying for that role just for sake of it. Ask around to find out which skills are highly valued and what additional skills make you a more attractive candidate.
Example- Suppose you are applying in a big MNC for the role of a marketing manager but you played a big role in the industry of sale with more than 12Yr of experience you will not consider a good applicant among other applicants until you have certified or proven your marketing skills even knowing that sales is part of marketing. - Guidance of a Mentor- Find someone in your network who already worked into that field, you are applying for. A well-connected professor, an employee of that organization, a career guide service- providers can be useful in this. If they're responsive, request them to review your application/ resume and give honest feedback.
Example- For instance, you are applying to XYZ Company that is very new to you for land into. What can you do to have a rough idea about that role, sign-in into Linkedin and find either current or ex-employee of that organization and check their connections, if there is any mutual connection then it can make your work easy. - Give Yourself Something to Do (Other Than Job Search) - Job searches typically take a lot of downtimes. Make sure you are doing something other than a job search. Do something that you are passionate about, this not only helps to give your community back but also giving you another line on your resume.
Example- Here I am doing this blog writing along with looking for some good opportunity. Sharing my experience here from the outer world will serve all of us.
