Be The Mentor ; You Wish, You Had

Get out of my class!
How dare you think that I Guru dronacharya will teach you archery. Don’t you know I only teach students of the royal family? My students are the future of this kingdom and they are the princes so get out and never show your face again.

With a heavy heart, Eklavya went back to his place but he never gave up. This was how great his determination to learn Archery.

He carved a statue of Drona on a tree trunk in the forest and started practicing in front of it.
Even though Guru dronacharya was not present physically, he faithfully went on practicing in front of the statue of Guru dronacharya and eventually become the supreme archer of the era Not only this in Guru Dakshina by cutting his thumb he displayed the dedication to his mentor and set the example in front of us.

Greetings to everyone.
We all know what importance a mentor has in our life. By sharing their experience, knowledge, and guidance they help mentees in achieving their goal. Sooner or later we all feel the importance of a mentor in our life to run it on the track smoothly. I also felt the same. There was a time in my life when I entered college life or you can say in the city's lifestyle. Coming from a rural background I found the city as a whole new world. People around me were much more forward than me and While thinking these thoughts it disheartened me and my soul screamed out loud.

Here I took a pause and envisioned possible ways that can make me better, be It listening motivators, following influencers, and attending sessions of counselors.
But attempting all these necessary steps I realized this is not actually what I am looking for because motivator, influencer, and a counselor can help me to achieve my goal but this is not effective so much until or unless we have one to one communication, instead of one-way communication.

Coming to the next part of my story, one day I heard about a toastmasters club that held a meeting in our college. Next Sunday morning with full excitement, I thought  why not go and explore the toastmasters club. As time passed I realized that this was what I have been looking for. I was even more amazed when I heard about the mentor-mentee program.
Talking about the toastmaster’s mentor-mentee program, a mentor is an experienced person who supports the mentee to reach their goals and listen without judgment, provide guidance, and answer questions. When I joined the club, a mentor was also assigned to me that not only helped me to achieve my goals but also a good mentor-mentee relationship that benefited me to accomplished in other places in my lives.

To be very clear, suppose toastmasters as a gym. In the gym we have a personalized trainer to shape our body also we have to pay for this and similarly, in toastmasters, they have a mentor to shape our skills to achieve the right goals.

Now I believe we all have three kinds of mentors in our life-
  • The First kind are mentors by defaults- these are parents. My parents are my all-time mentor even if I am doing right or wrong.
  • Second mentors are mentors by force- these are our teachers. Teachers taught us every stage of our school and college life and today wherever we are it’s because of their guidance and support even if they scolded us.
  • Third mentors are mentors by choice- these are our friends, our managers, our colleagues in the community.
In my life, I always open my arms as a mentee because here is too much to learn from each one of you surrounding me. One kind of mentor I would like to suggest all of you, be your one mentor & talk to yourself at least 1 minute of a day, even if you don’t have any mentor upon you. I realized It when I was in though time and self-actualization helped me a lot.

In the end, I want to say mentorship is like a partnership as you can’t clap through a single hand. Similarly, mentorship is not done from one side. Fact says people with mentors achieve their life goals more effectively than people without mentors. Mentoring can be a rewarding experience for both the mentor and the mentee. Mentors also have their own mentor and the most successful mentors have neem mentees also.

Lesson:- Learn from your mentor as a mentee and In forthcoming time become a successful mentor.

Thank You!
